Research Opportunities: Visiting Researchers - Sabbatical Leave
UNU-CRIS offers the opportunity for university professors, researchers, and other professionals with a background in regional integration to spend research time in Bruges, for periods from 3 to 12 months.
Visiting researchers may conduct research on a topic related to the academic research programme of the centre, or contribute to the training and capacity-building initiatives linked to the broad area of regional integration.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Applications are welcome from any country, and from men and women with capabilities and experience in academia, government and regional organisations. Applicants must be able to demonstrate academic development through publications, and professional achievement.
Selection Process
Applicants are invited to submit a project proposal in the area of regional integration, to include a ten-page summary of the proposal together with brief curriculum vitae.
The basic criteria for selection are :
- Significance of the proposed research, including the importance and originality of the project
- Quality of the proposal in definition, organisation, clarity, and scope
- The relevance of the project to UNU-CRIS Research and capacity-building programme.
UNU-CRIS welcomes in particular those projects that reflect inter-disciplinary, prospective and comparative approaches. Also of interest are projects that have relevance to the world of policy and/or capacity-building in the area of regional integration.
Visiting Scholars Responsibilities
Visiting researchers are “scholars in residence” who participate in the activities of UNU-CRIS. Researchers are expected to contribute seminars, and participate in colloquia, workshops and other activities such as informal briefings and roundtable discussions.
Facilities and Services
Visiting researchers are assigned office space, computer facilities, and access to the libraries of UNU-CRIS and the College of Europe. In addition, Bruges is situated in close proximity to Brussels, the seat of the European Union and other international organisations, as well as a number of universities and research centres.
Although visiting researchers are required to arrange their own travel, housing and health insurance, UNU-CRIS will provide advice to help facilitate the search process.
There is no stipend attached to the position of visiting researcher.
Deadline for applicants
Applications are reviewed periodically throughout the year, and the commencement date of the sabbatical period is subject to the agreement of the centre and the visiting researcher.
