UNU-CRIS organises a panel on "Understanding European Integration from a Comparative Perspective" at UACES Conference, Bruges, 6-8 September 2010
UNU-CRIS organises a panel on ‘Understanding European Integration from a Comparative Perspective’ at UACES conference in Bruges on 7 September 2010 from 14.30 until 16.00.
This panel aims at emphasising the different nuances of regional integration, following all the various areas related to the study of the topic: from the problems concerning the comparative analysis and the monitoring to trade-related aspects and from the social dimension of regional integration to regional peace and security. In this framework, the case study of the EU represents a fundamental tool to enhance and further the comparative perspective of regional integration. Vice versa, comparative regional integration studies can help to better understand European integration processes.
The panel will be structured as follows:
- Luk Van Langenhove (chair)
- Alex Warleigh-Lack (discussant)
- Philippe De Lombaerde (paper-giver: Comparing Regionalisms: Methodological Challenges)
- Maria-Cristina Macovei (paper-giver: The Social Dimension of Regionali Integration)
- Fredrik Söderbaum (paper-giver: Linking European Integration and Comparative Regionalism)
- Stephen Woolcock (paper-giver: Is Bilateralism undermining Regionalism?)
The UACES Conference on "Exchanging Ideas on Europe: Europe at a Cross-Road" will be a three day event hosted by the College of Europe which will bring together academics and practitioners in disciplines such as law, economics, geography, history, sociology, public policy and politics from across Europe and beyond. There will be a large number of research papers presented as well as some plenary sessions.
